The Port of Cigading was established to provide facilities for loading and unloading for all raw materials, product and spare parts of Krakatau Steel Company (KSC). In 1970, the Government of Indonesia appointed Pertamina to take over operations of the original Trikora Steel Plant and KSC was established at this time. KSC immediately began land clearing to expand facilities for producing billet, sponge and other materials. In 1975 the Government of Indonesia Ministry of Industrial took over operation of KSC because of financial difficulties being experienced by Pertamina. A strategic integrated plan was developed and implemented to extend PT. Krakatau Foundry and Rolling Mill making KSC the largest integrated steel plant in South East Asia at that time. In the same year, PT. Krakatau started to build the first pellet berth with a length of 300 meters and apron of 33 meters.
